Drying Lumber Indoors

After air drying is complete, small amounts of lumber can be dried in your home to bring the moisture content down to 6%-8%. Thicknesses up to 2" can be dried to this level in 1 to 4 months. The lumber must be stacked in the same manner as outdoors air drying. Locate the stack where warm dry air can circulate through the stack easily. Avoid excessively hot locations e.g.: near stoves or hot air ducts. The placement of a dehumidifier nearby will assist in the drying process. Keep dried lumber of 6% - 8% MC indoors in a heated location until you are ready to make your final product. (If you don't, it will revert to the air dry moisture content of approximately 20%).

We would recommend this for small amounts of cherry or walnut you may have on your land (or any curly maple we may uncover during the milling process). **Under certain circumstances we will take lumber in lieu of some cash.
